The Timeless Beauty of a Church Wedding
Many couples prefer the timeless, traditional venue of a church for their weddings. The beautiful, sacred architecture of a church creates an atmosphere that you just can’t get anywhere else; I love the spaciousness of church interiors because, in addition to the special atmosphere, it gives lots of opportunities for interesting shots. The altar, arches, pews, tapestries, paintings and Biblical scenes remind us that we’re participating in a centuries-long tradition.
It’s the same with the different events in the order of service - the processional, the declarations, the exchange of vows, the signing of the register and the final blessings of the recessional. These, not to mention the hymns and readings, give me lots of opportunities to capture memorable moments from start to finish.
If you’re planning on having your wedding in a church, I always recommend checking whether there are any restrictions on where attendees and photographers can stand, and whether or not flash photography is allowed.

Photographing Rosie and Ruben’s church wedding on 25th July 2026 was such a joy. What I loved most about their day was how much meaning was behind every detail. Their story started when they met as teenagers on Twitter, before reconnecting years later during the lockdown in 2020. From that unexpected second chance at love to Ruben’s thoughtful proposal in Barcelona after one of their favourite festivals, their journey felt full of memories, connection, and little moments that made their wedding day even more special.
The church they chose was not just a beautiful place to get married — it was a place that was part of their own story. Located close to the community where they had lived together for years, it felt familiar, warm, and meaningful. As a photographer, I always find these kinds of venues incredibly special because the surroundings are not just a backdrop; they hold memories and emotions that make the photographs more personal.
Throughout the ceremony, I loved capturing the quiet moments as much as the big ones — the anticipation before the bride walked down the aisle, the emotions shared between family and friends, and the atmosphere created inside the church. Every glance, smile, and heartfelt moment helped tell the story of Rosie and Ruben’s wedding day.
