Manchester offers some fantastic venues for intimate weddings. I've photographed weddings and celebrations at a variety of locations, each offering its own unique atmosphere.
Isobel & Ben celebrated their wedding at Manchester Register Office, surrounded by their closest family members. After the ceremony, we took a relaxed stroll through the city centre, capturing some natural portraits along the streets before heading to their reception venue.
They enjoyed an intimate wedding meal in a private dining room at 20 Stories, a beautiful space that accommodates up to 18 guests. It was the perfect setting for a small, meaningful celebration with their nearest and dearest. The terrace at 20 Stories provided a bright and romantic backdrop for some stunning couple portraits overlooking the city.
Later in the evening, the celebrations continued at The Deansgate, where around 85 friends joined them to mark the occasion. The venue's rich dark green interiors created a stylish atmosphere, and we used flash photography to capture the energy and fun of the evening party.
By choosing three different venues, Isobel & Ben created a wedding day that perfectly reflected what mattered most to them. They enjoyed quality time with their closest family members during the day before celebrating with a larger group of friends in the evening. The entire day felt relaxed and unhurried, allowing plenty of time for each part of the celebration and ensuring we captured every important moment along the way.
David & Teresa held their wedding at Manchester Register Office, surrounded by their closest family. After the ceremony, we took a relaxed walk through the city together towards El Rincon de Rafa, stopping along the way to capture natural, unposed moments as the day unfolded. We also made a brief stop at Parsonage Gardens, a quiet little spot nearby, for some calm and intimate portraits.
Their wedding meal was held at El Rincon de Rafa, a restaurant full of Spanish warmth and character. With its rustic décor, soft lighting, and inviting atmosphere, it created a relaxed setting for sharing food and conversation with their nearest family. The intimate dining space suited their celebration perfectly, while still offering flexibility for larger gatherings of 50+ guests, making it a great option for both micro weddings and bigger family occasions.
In the evening, the celebrations continued at Lock 91, where they welcomed their friends into the Lounge and Canal-side Terrace. The space had a laid-back, lively feel, perfect for drinks, dancing, and catching up as the night went on. The whole day felt effortless and easy-going, which allowed me to focus on capturing candid moments as they naturally happened, from the quiet family interactions earlier on to the energy of the evening party.
May & Joshua celebrated their wedding at The Black Friar, a venue filled with warm, sunflower-inspired details that created a bright and uplifting atmosphere throughout the day. Having already completed their legal ceremony two days earlier, this gathering was all about sharing a relaxed celebration with close family and friends before planning a larger celebration in Malaysia next year.
They chose The Tavern space within the venue, a characterful room that can accommodate up to around 50 guests. With greenery, hanging details, and sunflowers woven throughout the décor, it offered a joyful and welcoming setting for their day. The couple exchanged their vows before sitting down for their meal, followed by heartfelt speeches that brought plenty of emotional moments and happy tears.
Afterwards, we stepped outside for a few portraits around the surrounding streets, making the most of the area’s atmosphere and light. The Black Friar provided a beautiful backdrop for their couple photos, and it genuinely felt like they were surrounded by sunflowers and warmth from start to finish.
Sean & Julia spent their wedding day at King Street Townhouse, from getting ready right through to their first dance. Set in the heart of Manchester, this beautifully restored Italian Renaissance-style building brings together historic architecture and modern luxury, creating a timeless and elegant setting for city weddings. It works particularly well for intimate to mid-sized celebrations, typically accommodating around 30–80 guests, making it ideal for couples who want something stylish yet personal.
Being so centrally located, the venue also offers plenty of great nearby spots for portraits, with the city streets providing a perfect backdrop for relaxed, urban-style wedding photos.
The day itself was filled with personality and laughter. Guests delivered entertaining speeches—some even supported by well-prepared slideshows—which added plenty of humour to the meal. As the evening unfolded, an Irish band brought incredible energy to the celebration, leading into a lively square dance with all their guests.
From start to finish, the atmosphere stayed joyful and full of connection, making it a genuinely fun and memorable day to photograph!
Keith & Patrick chose Portico Library for their wedding and even adopted two books there as part of the celebration. Every detail throughout the day felt thoughtfully considered, from bee-inspired touches and honey-themed gifts to the beautiful floral arrangements that tied everything together.
Around 30 guests gathered in The Reading Room for a ceremony that felt warm, personal, and full of care. Michelle, the host at Portico Library, added such a welcoming touch to the day, even encouraging staff to wear yellow details in keeping with the theme. I also had time before and after the ceremony in The Main Hall to capture relaxed, candid moments as the space gradually filled and settled.
Afterwards, we continued the celebrations at Honey Restaurant in Hotel Gotham. The space has a striking Art Deco feel, with soft light and views across the Manchester skyline, creating a luxurious yet intimate atmosphere for their wedding meal and speeches. The small balcony on the same floor also gave guests a chance to step outside and enjoy a different perspective of the evening.
The speeches in Honey Restaurant were especially memorable to photograph, with beautiful soft light throughout the room and so many genuine moments shared. Hearing how much Keith & Patrick value their relationship after 27 years together made the day feel even more meaningful, and it was a real privilege to document such a heartfelt celebration!
Valerie & Gabriel’s wedding story unfolded over two separate days, allowing them to keep their wedding day relaxed and fully present with their guests. Their couple portraits were taken at Tatton Park, giving them time to enjoy a calm, natural setting without rushing on the day itself.
Valerie brought a beautiful personal touch to the celebration, with a strong love for pink woven throughout the styling. From the confetti to the décor, everything was thoughtfully handmade by her over the course of a month, adding a very personal and meaningful feel to the day.
Their ceremony took place in The Study at Manchester Hall, an intimate space that accommodates around 30 guests. With its soft grey tones, classical detailing, and clean, minimal aesthetic, it created a timeless backdrop that kept the focus on people and emotion rather than decoration.
After the ceremony, guests gathered on the rooftop terrace for confetti, making the most of the open-air setting and city views. Drinks followed back in The Study, keeping everything relaxed and connected in one space.
Later in the evening, Valerie & Gabriel changed into a second outfit and continued the celebrations over their favourite pizza with family. I stayed with them to capture some final flash-lit moments, bringing a fun and documentary feel to the end of the day.
Small weddings have a unique atmosphere that I genuinely love photographing.
